Turmeric Play-dough

We made a delightful golden play-dough colored and scented with the dried spice - turmeric.

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 cup dried turmeric
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup cold water


Mix dry ingredients add wet ingredients ... mix well. Cook over medium heat until it holds together. Knead a few times and let cool.

This month we have learning all about our bodies and we especially enjoyed reading these great books!

We love this human body puzzle by Hape Toys.

Nurse Kim came by with her first aid kit and taught us all about how to properly wash our hands and make a simple bandage.

We recorded our body shapes on the floor and compared being as small as our body could be to how big we could make our body - then we danced around labeling all the different body parts we could think of.

Tickling Experiment - what's more ticklish, your hands or your feet?

Herb Detectives - Using our sense of smell we matched fresh herbs from the garden with the dried version of the same herbs.

We made our own Saurkraut: The kids chopped the cabbage, massaged in the salt and pounded into jars.  One week later we had delicious kraut!

And the kids always come up with their own original experiments and designs; 
creating waterfalls, rivers, and dams:

making their own paint out of colored chalk:

and designing forts in the sandbox:

In the garden we planted flowers...

and lettuces...

and harvested carrots...

and broccoli...

and collards!
